Chevrolet Repair: ignition tumbler 1996 silverado, phillips screws, vancouver area

Question
QUESTION: turned my truck off and remove ignition key wanted to move it again and now cannot turn key jiggle wheel and shift lever and still will not move  Help

ANSWER: Sounds like a tumbler is stuck or broken.  Try squirting a SMALL amount of lock cylinder lube or wd40 and wiggle.  If you temp is really low where you are at try some de-icer.  Sounds like the lock cylinder.

QUESTION: Thanks Wayne for the quick response but already tried that and I live in Vancouver area so cold is out. can you tell me how to remove tumbler so I can change it Thanks Paul

Answer
Hey,

Once the wheel is off you need a special tool to compress and get the lock ring off of the horn plate.  Once that is off you remove the phillips screws holding the switch in and the torx that holds the cylinder in.  It does take a bit of tools and skill to do it but if you don't mind buying a 9 dollar tool to compress the plate its worth the 1.5 hours you will be charged shop time.
