Audio Systems: Mach 460 amps, ford mustang gt, alpine cd

Question
im sorry if you dont do car questions but you seemed to be the only available to ask.  I have a 2000 ford mustang gt with mach 460 in it.  I was driving the other day and got alot of low bassy feedback, i shut the aftermarket alpine cd player off, turned it back on and only get a very quiet signal that contains alot of static.  I had 2 subs and an amp in the trunk and when i removed them prior to the problem i taped all the wire ends with electrical tape but missed the remote wire.  when i wired the system into the head unit, i had to wire the remote turn-on from the head unit to both the remote wire for the after market amp and the remote turn on for the dual mach 460 amps.  With my knowledge of car audio my problem in my mind is that I burnt the amps up and that the very little sound i am getting if coming from the 50x4 pre amp pn the cd head unit itself, and that power is being lost as it travels through the two dead amps before it reaches any of the speakers.  my concern is that i am wrong and that i will end up wasting money replacing these amps.  I have checked all grounds and fuses, and everything is good.  I even swtiched the amps from one side to the other to see if i would recieve a different response but nothing changed.  Im stuck, any help would be awesome but i understand if it cant be diagnosed .  thank you

Answer
Do you have a VOM?  If not you can buy one at Walmart or Home Depot for under $10.00.

Using the voltmeter in the vom, check the 12v lines to the amp.  There are two 12v connections. one from the battery through a fuse of some kind. The other from the head unit that is the turn on line to the amp.  Make sure you have good fuses and the 12v lines are powered.  Also, double check the speaker wires for shorts or open conditions.

This should help you find out what is going on.  I doubt the amps are toast, but you will know after the tests above.
