Audio Systems: Pioneer VSX-604s, pioneer vsx, home theater system

Question
Hi, I'm looking into buying a home theater system.  I own a Pioneer VSX-604s receiver and was wondering if it is a viable option to use this receiver and the speakers and sub from a Panasonic SC-HT940 and an upconvert DVD player for a home theater system or if I would be better off buying a Home theater in a box.  Thanks.

Answer
Packaged systems are good if you don't want to think about anything. Just plug them in and let them play. That doesn't make them all better. You should be able to mix and match most audio equipment. The better it is the better the results should be. Both Pioneer and Panasonic are well respected consumer brands. If you already have the equipment then try hooking it up. The answer to the question of whether the DVD will decode all systems and whether the receiver will do the same should be in the manuals. If not you should be able to download PDF manuals. At worst you can use a matrix to simulate surround sound but in most cases should probably decode Dolby and DTS.
