Audio Systems: 98 Pontiac rear speakers, pontiac grand prix, gm cars

Question
QUESTION: I'm going crazy trying to replace my rear speakers in my 98 Pontiac Grand Prix SE.  I can't figure out how to get the guard/cover off of them.  I've looked online and can't find anything. Any info?

ANSWER: Have you been inside the trunk space?  And look up from below?  I think you will find it must be unbolted from below.  The grill cover has bolts going down through the deck and the speaker - at least in some GM cars.

Try that and see if that doesn't solve the dilemma.

QUESTION: Thank you for your time.  This took a late night but finally I figured it out then verified it with an installer the next day.  For future info: you have to remove the entire back seat. There are no bolts that you can remove from inside the car. Quick process as follows on Grand Prix's: remove seat portion first by pulling 2 release handles under each side of front side of seat. Then remove back of seat by unbolting 4 bolts at bottom of back, then lift back of seat up and out (there are about 6 hooks pointing down that hook it to the body. Then remove the 2 side trim pieces (trim/pop rivets). Then remove the rear window deck and the speakers can then be seen and removed. Even after the deck is out you still can't remove the grill covers. They are permanently attached to the deck. Hope this helps someone in the future.

Answer
Thanks.  Every car is different - even same model and same year sometimes have different mountings.  Seems car manufacturers may have two different factories that make them slightly different.

Appreciate your clarification.  Sorry it was so difficult finding out!

PS: Now that I think of it I had an Olds a few years ago that required the entire back seat to be removed to access the mounting hardware for speaker removal, too.
