Land Rover Repair: Overheating Discovery, coolant system, fan clutch

Question
Hi
I have a 1995 Disco I that has just started overheating. I have replaced the thermostat, coolant thermistor, fan, and fan clutch. I have also removed and inspected all the hoses, and the water pump, and had the radiator flushed and checked for blockages. Everything appears to be working normally. However, every time I start the truck, it warms up normally to the middle of the temp range and remains there for about 10 min. Then, for some unknown reason, it just starts to increase temp until it goes into the red and overheats. Have you seen this problem before or have any ideas? I'm getting pretty frustrated.

Thanks for any input!

Answer
Hi Don,

could be within the engine itself.  Have you pressure tested the coolant system within the engine?  Could be a blown headgasket.  Hope not.

Don't allow the engine to run at high temp levels as this will eventually lead to serious engine failure.  The sleeve that lines each cylinder has been known to detach and drop at extreme high temps.  If this happens, the engine is useless.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
