Audio Systems: How to hook up multiple amps to one subwoofer, dual voice coil, car subs

Question
I have recently watched an episode of Pimp MY Ride, and they had 9 amps hooked up to three 10" subs, how did they do that, I am looking to do something similar

Answer
Car subs are often dual voice coil designs. There are even subs with 3 voice coils!

So, three speakers could have 9 voice coils with one amp driving each voice coil.

Or the amps could be connected in bridge such that two amps drive one voice coil.

There are other possible combinations.  To give you a specific answer it would be necessary to know the amp make/model and the speaker unit designs.

In your system, let me know the make and model of amps and speakers and I can give you suggestions on how to wire them up.  But, the question is;  Why not just one amp to one speaker?  That is always the best way to do it if you choose the products wisely.

Let me know if you need more.
