Audio Systems: Onkyo DX C-110 CD Player, laser diode, random spots

Question
I have an Onkyo 6cd player that has suddenly began to "drop out" in random spots while playing a cd. It happens on all cds in random spots and not at the same spots when played again. The same cds are fine when played on another player. I've cleaned the lens but that produced no result.

Can you assist?

Thanks!

Answer
Laser diode is weak and needs replacing. This diode is buried deep inside the optical pickup mechanism and is, therefore, very expensive to replace.  In almost all cases it is more economical to just replace the cd changer/player with a new model.

Your model is getting along in years is it not?  You may want to update it anyway as there are many upgrades on cd players over time. A new model is offered about every 6 months by most major companies due to the quick changes in technology.

Hope this will help.
