Pontiac: rear brake pads, pontiac grand prix, pontiac grand prix gt

Question
I recently bought new rotors and pads for my car and installed them myself. My problem is with the pad my supplier sold me. The counter person showed me the economy and performance pads and are the same basic design. The problem with the pad is a small metal stud on the back of the pad "bottom, centre".When placed on the inboard position of the caliper, the brake cylinder strikes it pushing the pad on an angle against the rotor. Noting that to the supplier,he recommends grinding the stud off? The old pads do not have this stud. Am I getting the right pad? The auto supply dealer won't give me any other option/pad! Is it nornal to do this , or am I grinding off my "3 year warranty"? 2000 pontiac grand prix gt,3800,4 wheel disc.   thanks in advance.

Answer
Did all 4 new pads have the stud? Could it be that you are putting the outboard pad on the inside? Did the economy and performance pads both have the stud? Are you sure the car is a 2000 and not a 99 or 01? To be sure check the VIN number. The 10th number will be a Y if it is a 2000. If all of this checks out, sounds like you are getting the wrong set of pads. If the car really is a 2000, have the parts store check a set for a 2001. About the warranty, you would have to check with the parts store. I have never run across this, but I always use GM original parts. They may cost a little more but they are the correct replacement part and they do last longer. Also some of the aftermarket pads will give you a "mushy" feel.
