Audio Systems: jvc rx-d301s receiver hookup, external amplifier, home speakers

Question
I have a jvc rx-d301s receiver for my home surround system. it is hooked up to my tv, dbs, dvd, etc, and works fine. i have 5 surround speakers - front l&r, center, rear l&r, and sub. my problem is this. my house is also wired for sound in 4 rooms. i have a sima speaker selector (SSW-4) that my 4 rooms are hooked to, but what do i hook up the selector to from my receiver. i hooked it to the open left and right speaker outputs, but don't get any volume from my room speakers. the local tech store tells me a have to by a whole new $300 receiver, go from my digital out to digital in on the new receiver, then hook up my selector, hence my interior home speakers, to the new receiver. Huh? Shouldn't i be able to hook up my home speakers to the back of this receiver and get decent sound?
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Kory

Answer
Adding an external amplifier is a more elegant solution because it adds separate level control and solves the impedance matching problem.

But, the Sima switch should work just fine if you have it hooked up properly.

If you are connected to the open connections on the receiver you must switch the speaker selector button on the receiver over to the  B set.

Also, there is the impedance matter.  If the impedance of the speakers in any of the rooms are too low for the rating of the amp, the amp may cutout and wait for the speakers to be disconnected.  Also, you may have shorted conditions in some of the wiring; please check that out.

If you need more help, please let me know.  If you come back to me I need the make and model numbers and impedance ratings of the speakers you are using.  Hope this helps you solve the problem.
