Audio Systems: Sub, sony cd player, power cap

Question
ALright I have a sony Cd player not sure to the specs but i have 1 12inch Sub MTX, an 800 watt Visonik amp. and Its been working great until recently when every i would hit my ATT button it would turn it down but my sub would like make a constant beat, it would play the music then stop, play the music then stop. repatatively but constant. Now it just does it when ever the sub is hooked up. What do you think it is, Bad Wiring, Busted Sub, Bad Amp?

Answer
This unit has hi and lo inputs.  Which one are you using?  It can be caused by level mismatch.  It is what we call in the trade "motorboating" and is a form of instability.

Also, the remote bass control - which is what I think you are calling the ATT or ATTENUATION - can be the cause of it if there is a bad ground or bad battery connection anywhere along the way.

Are you using a power cap on the Visonik amp?  If so, check the connections on it very carefully and make sure it is charged up all the way.  Let me know if you don't know what I am talking about.

Likewise, a bad speaker wire or connection can be the cause.  Check it out thoroughly as well.

I am reasonably certain this is not a bad amp but can be faulty wiring or less than perfect connections on the 12v lines or grounds.

Check these out and let me know further if need be.
