My tape deck has auto reverse and because of this i cannot use a tape adapter for my ipod. is there a way to turn the auto-reverse off?

no there is no way to do that the radio is looking for a real tape not that electronic device the best way to get audio in to the radio is by using a AUX interface or IPOD adapter
radio needs to have aux or cd buttons
