Audio Systems: Adding headphone jacks., headphone amp, internal speakers

Question
Hi. I have a Panasonic TV, with a speaker. Model# MB10860424, Chasis#  ALMOP197. How can I add a headphone jack to the tv. I know I will need a schematic but right now I am having trouble finding one. I am comfortable with electrical wiring and soldering.
Thanks.

Answer
Trust me on this one: It may be more difficult and costly to add a headphone amp and connection than to just buy a new tv!

But, if you want to do it, here is my thought.

ONE: You don't need a schematic if you are experienced with electronics.

TWO: Find the speaker wires.  Make a junction from the speakers to the outside of the set.  Obtain a headphone amp and connect the speaker connections to the input of the preamp.

You may have to use some adapter cables to get the speaker wires to connect to the input of the headphone amp.

If you don't want to the internal speakers to operate while listening to the headphones you can put a switch on the set to cut out the speaker(s).

A headphone amp will cost you from $20 to $100, depending on the model chosen.  Radio Shack has one that might do the job for $30.

Maybe the above strategy which is an external solution may work for you.

Let me know if you need more.
