Motorcycle Repair: 1980 honda cb900f rear brake frozen, honda cb900f, caliper piston

Question
i bought this 1980 honda cb900f bike used - it's my first bike and i'm learning to ride on it. one thing i noticed is that when i drop it into neutral, it is really hard to back the bike up. a friend told me that the rear brake was frozen. is this dangerous, and how can i fix it, or find instructions on how to fix it?
any help is much appreciated. thanks!

Answer
Hi Andre,

The brake fluid in the rear caliper may have gummed around the caliper piston seals and causing the caliper to stick and drag the rotor. This can wear caliper, brake pads, and rotor.

Tap the caliper moderately with a rubber mallet or similar. Tap directly from the side as if driving the wheel axle thru. Tap once or twice and see if the MC rolls without resistance.

I suspect the caliper will need removed, thoroughly cleaned, and system flushed and bled.
