Audio Systems: headphone jacks, headphone jacks, headphone output

Question
Is there any way headphones can be attached to a tv for someone hearing impaired and still allow the tv speakers to be heard for those who are not

Answer
Yes, of course. I cannot tell you specifically for your set without the model number so I can look up its features.

The easiest way is, for sets that have audio output jacks on the back, is to just run an external amp/speaker for those who want full sound.

Another way, as above is to use the internal tv speakers and put the headphones on an external amp that has its own headphone output.  In both these cases each listening party has control of the volume independent of each other.

If the set does not  have external audio outputs the best way would be to open up the tv so you can get at the headphone jack.  It has break contacts built into the jack such that when the headphone plug is inserted it spreads the speaker contacts and cuts the speaker connections off. Jumpering them with a solder link will keep them going all the time, but there will not be independent volume control over the two listeners.

Does that make sense to you?

Let me know if you need more.
