The box looks like it shorted out and burned through. The green card has a burned spot on it in a couple of places.  The fuse didn't blow, the battery drained and there was a bad electrical burning smell. What does it control? A replacement is over $400 (Can).  Can the car operate without it?  What could cause this?

Answer -
Hi Don, You have me confused. Do you mean twilight sentinal for the headlights, Daytime running lights for the headlights or illuninated entry for the interrior lights? And where is this box located? Bill

Hi Bill:  All that is marked on the module is Passive Lighting Control,  GM Guide 5973544WH1 and GM Guide 16512485 BL1.  There are a few other words but the lable is crumpled and unreadable.  It was in the dashboard.

Answer
Hi Don, This sounds like it could eithor be the twilight sentinal module or the daytime running lights module. In Canada they require that vehicles have the daytime running lights feature but am unsure what year they require it. I would say if the headlamps turn on normal with the headlamp switch and you are not required to have DRL on your year Cadillac then unplug it and leave it be. The other option is to get a used one from the junk yard/auto recycler and install it on your car. They just go bad over time because of the voltage that runs through them. Hope that helps. Bill
