Audio Systems: my subs!, dual voice coil, sony xplod amp

Question
Howdy. In the past i have had two twelve inch alpine type E subs with a 1200w sony xplod amp.  A year past after i sold and i decided i wanted some more so here i am. i have two alpine type r's 12 inch 2 ohm with dual voice coil.  I need to know, what is the best amp for me to get?

Answer
Did you like the xplods?  They aren't the greatest, but they are okey.

I don't like to give equipment recommendations because there are so many subjective factors.  You really need to do your own homework.  Fortunately, with the WWW it is easy to do so.

In any event, make sure you have impedance compatibility between the load rating of the amp and the impedance of the speakers (after you have decided how you are going to wire them up.  (If you put two 2 ohm voice coils in parallel you end up with 1 ohm; not all amplifiers can handle that).  Better to put 2 ohm coils in series for 4 ohms; then if you have two drivers, with 4 coils, a series/parallel will give you 2 ohms.  So, make sure your amps will drive a 2 ohm load.

Also, more important than amplifier power is loading the subs in a proper enclosure box.  Give that some thought and research.  Proper loading can do more to get gut busting bass than just throwing gobs of power at them.

Crutchfield is a good place to start investigating, but you can buy from CircuitCity, Bustbuy and so on.

Good Luck,
