Audio Systems: what amp do i need? please help me!, infinity subs, ohm load

Question
Hi, I recently bought 2 12" infinity subs the problem is I don’t no much about this sort of thing and I don’t no which amp I should be looking at to run these. The subs are 1230 reference infinities, each are 1000 WATT PEAK 300 WATT RMS and I think they are 4 Ohm.

Now this doesn’t mean much to me and im glad im not fitting them! So what kind of amp should I be looking at I have seen 1/2, 4, 6 channels etc and I don’t have a clue what this means. I have found an Infinity RA7502 amp for sale would this be suitable? If not what else would be?

Hoping some of this makes sense to you

And if you could please help me I would be very grateful

Thanks

Answer
Any amp will do.  You can connect the subwoofers in parallel for 2 ohms; then connect to an amp that has a two ohm load rating.  A better solution might be to use a 2 channel (stereo) amp and connect each one of the subs to one amp output.

The power rating of 1000w is meaningless;it is must marketing hype.  The rating of 300 watts simply means if you have a more powerful amp and turn the volume up too far you might damage the subs.  The RMS reference is incorrect; there is no such thing as rms watts and the marketing people know that, but they keep using it erroneously.  It really refers to continuous power.

The Infinity amp you mentioned will do a fine job; they will sound good.

BUT:  The greatest and most important issue in subbing your car is the enclosure the Infinities will be mounted in.  You should contact with Infinity for the optimum size and design of enclosure in order to get the best performance.
