Nissan Repair: 87 pathfinder electrical problems, seatbelt light, fusible links

Question
Hi Von,
i have a 87 pathfinder se v6, and about a week ago it would start up and idle for about 2or3 minutes, then die, and while the ignition was still on a clicking sound could be heard around the steering column, as well as the seatbelt light turning on (dash light). i could then either pop the clutch or restart with the ignition and it would work just fine, but a day or two ago it wouldn't start at all. i checked and found that there's no power getting to my coil but the engine turns over(but doesnt start). i checked the fusible links and they were fine, as well as the fuses. thought maybe that the eccs computer was bad? i do have an viper aftermarket alarm as well as a blackjack carjacking alarm. got any ideas? thanks, vince

Answer
Vince,

I would think the alarm is the cause of the problem.  Take the system down by turning on the valet switch or unplugging it from the harness and bridging the kill circuit and try to start the car.  Email me back with the results.  But, I had a Corvette do the same thing as you describe and it was the alarm.
