Audio Systems: CONFUSED?, metal chassis, cvrs

Question
I have recently bought 2 12' kicker cvrs and had them installed into my
car.  My problem is that i have been playing the subs quite often and
all of a sudden they just started to start thumping like a heartbeat,
even when i turn them off. If you have any knowledge of what is going on
i would gladly appreciate a response.
Thank you very much,
S

Answer
I cannot give you a specific answer without knowing the exact details of your equipment and installation.

But, I can speak generally about this phenomenon.  It is a common occurrence and is usually (but not always) associated with a bad ground connection at the sub amplifier.  The bad ground prevents the OFF circuit that is connected to the head unit from going OFF and the amp just keeps cycling up and down causing the thumping sound in the speakers.

So: To stop the thumping, disconnect the main 12v line to the amp.  Then, check the ground connection from the amp to the metal chassis of the vehicle.  Unscrew the ground connection, sand or scrape it down so you can get a more solid connection and try it again.

Also, if you had a commercial installer, go back to them as this should be within their warranty when they did the installation work.

Let me know if you need further help.
