Audio Systems: car audio problem, external amplifier, fuse blocks

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I have a pinoeer mp3 player. yesterday i was driving everything was working fine and all of a sudden music stopped. Radio and cd player plays cd but i don't hear any sound from speakers. I have no clue what happened. I am sure it's not fuse. But is there anything i can do to make them work. It's a 1998 lexus es300.

thank you

ANSWER: You did not give me the model number nor the system components, but I am assuming there is an external power amplifier that has either blown a fuse or failed.

If you can find the power amplifier, check for a fuse or reset button on the amp. Also, check all the fuses associated with the audio system.  There are two fuse blocks on this car; one under the hood in the engine compartment and one under the dash on the drivers side near the steering column.

If you find a bad fuse, replace it. If it blows again you will need to go to an install/repair shop for service.

QUESTION: I don't have any amp in my car i took the stock amp out with stock cd player. does stereo and speakers have a different fuse ? because my cd player is working fine i just don't hear any sound from speakers.

Answer
I can't imagine a Lexus without an external amplifier for the speakers.

So, assuming that you do NOT have an amp it means you are driving the speakers from the head unit.  There are no separate fuses for the internal amp.  So, here are the possibilities.

ONE: The wiring harness or connections of the speaker plug to the head unit has fallen out.
TWO: The power amp section of the head unit has lost power by an open circuit on the PC board (possibly burnt out).
THREE:  The audio output module has been over driven and either blown out or a thermal interrupt has opened up inside. This can be from driving the power too hard.
FOUR:  All the speaker wires or speakers have blown  (would be a rare event, but could happen if they were all overdriven badly).

So, there are some things you can look at.
