Audio Systems: Any Advice, speaker impedance, metal chassis

Question
Hey my stereo seems to always cut out and turn back on then off again when i have my volume up i checked the ground wire and all my other wires and don't know what the problem is any help would be great i got a pioneer 12" sub and a Concept 800 watt amp and mach audio system speakers thanks

Answer
I would have to know more about your system and how it is installed to give you a reliable report.

However, speaking generically, the main cause for cutting out is overdriving the amp.  If the speaker impedance is too low and the amp is overheating it will trigger the thermal protection circuit in the amp.

Also, shorts in the speaker line are a problem. If the insulation is injured and the wire is somewhere touching the metal chassis of the vehicle it can be the cause.  Hair wires accidentally touching at the connectors on the back of the amp or speaker will do the same thing.

If the amp is in mono/bridge you must be very careful with the wiring; more so than when it is in stereo.  This is because the speaker wires are floating at a higher voltage.

If you can't solve the problem let me know more about your installation. Especially, I need to know the impedance rating of the pioneer and how you are wiring it to the amp.  I need to know the complete system components, the vehicle make, model and year and where all the stuff is mounted and what size wires you are running, etc.

Hope this helps.
