Audio Systems: Tape Stuck in Tape Deck, oldsmobile intrique, tangled state

Question
My mother has a 98 Oldsmobile Intrique.  There is a tape that has been stuck in the tape deck for a year now. The radio itself works fine. Its just the tape deck. When we try to remove the tape we here a clicking noise. Would that be theft lock that is activated or is the tape just stuck period? How do we get the tape out? Do we have to remove the whole radio to get the tape out?

Answer
I didn't think anyone used cassettes anymore. Manufacturers of cassettes stopped making them about 10 years ago and repair technicians who know how to fix them are a rear breed.

The clicking sound is probably the little motor that spits the cassette out trying but failing to push out the cassette, in it's tangled state. With 98% certainty I can tell you that the tape is rapped around the pinch roller which is pressed hard against the capstan. In short it would require disassembling the cassette player which probably means a doing the same to the dashboard. If you really want to listen to music in the car then you should probably use the radio and/or get an mp3 player and a cable from Radio Shack to make it play wirelessly through the radio.

As far as getting the clicking noise to stop, turning off the radio/CD player should do that.
