Audio Systems: optimal bass settings for aftermarket car stereo equipment., car stereo equipment, car stereo system

Question
Hi, I have been installing an aftermarket car stereo system in my girlfriends 2002 Grand Am GT.  All components are Sony Xplod.  THe car stereo is is Model CDX-GT20W 100 dB and 52Wx4 channels.  The Amp is a 1200W Punch with a Rockford Fosgate Remote Punch Bass.  The Subs are 2 12" 1200W.  She listens to alot of rap and rock/alternative.  How can I adjust the settings for optimal bass?  (she wants a deep thumping sound?  Thank you very much.

Answer
Yes, everybody wants the deep chest vibrating bass that gives show-off performance!

The equipment you have is able to do that.  The most important aspect of getting the best super bass response out of the subs is to have them mounted in the right size and tuned box.

Then, if the power of the bass is not sufficient, turn the gain controls on the upper speakers down while the gain on the subs remains at maximum.  A good way to do this is to put in a cd with about the best bass you know; then turn the  upper speaker amps down very low.  Then, adjust the sub amp gain control up until the sub speakers are just hitting bottom, which represents maximum drive.  Then you have established the reference level setting for the sub system.  This done, then come back and bring the upper speaker levels up until it give good sound balance.  Good sound balance is what she likes to hear.   You don't need any fancy instruments to get good sound quality; just listen with many different music programs until you are satisfied with the sound.

Maybe this will help.
