Audio Systems: car head unit skips????, voice coil, mismatch

Question
i have a new rca reciever rcm828 my problem is when you turn it on at almost any volume my door speakers cut out every few seconds but my subs still play have had this problem with 2 of the same decks i put another rca deck in and it plays fine could it possibly be the internal amp? the power rating on the 828 is 240 on the other its 180

Answer
This is a 4 x 20w built in amplifier.  since the subs are still going it must be that the subs have their own amplifier.

The rca is probably going into shut down due to overload conditions.  This can be caused by shorts in one of the speaker lines or a shorted voice coil in any one of the speakers.  It could also be due to improper impedance matching with the amplifier.

Since one deck does play okey, I lean towards there being a mismatch of impedances with the model that is cutting out.

Hope this helps, but come back to me if there is more.
