Towing Issues: Accident While Towing, inpression, insurance commissioner

Question
My husband was towing a trailer with two snowmobiles on it when he hit a patch of black ice and skidded off the road.  The truck, the trailer, and both machines are totalled.  Now the insurance company is telling me that only the truck is covered and that the trailer and machines should have been insured separately.  Is that true?  I was always under the inpression that the tow vehicle's insurance covered everything that it towed behind it.

Answer
Well I am kind of out of my area of expertise with this question...

But insurance companies do tend to do what they want, or they make it so you have to purchase special coverage for extras..

My best advise it to talk to your local agent about what is covered.. If you do not get any answers then try going up the ladder a bit at the insurance company...

Worse case is that your state has an insurance commissioner which regulates all insurance companies who are licensed in your state...

Common belief is that everything is covered, but the truth is that if you add fancy special rims they do not cover them unless you get a extra policy.. Fancy stereo is same thing...
You can also contact a lawyer (which might be good advise)

These are my thoughts here...
