Audio Systems: audio for Proscan 36, solution possibilities, proscan tv

Question
QUESTION: I purchased Proscan 36"TV new, made in May 2000,and 2 days ago, various channels may have only hissing, a language or speech pattern which does not sync with the picture, or sound works one moment and then goes to hissing.  My VCR when plugged into the audio/video outlets allow all channels audio to function properly, but not when attached to the cable hub at the rear of the tv.  Should I be looking for a new HDTV or pay $120 for a tech service call?
ANSWER: I have a suggestion for you.

Since you found the vcr will feed into the set and give good sound and video why not just purchase an inexpensive vcr ($20 and up - or use one you already have) and use it for the tuner and the tv as a monitor.

Cost will be nothing or little.

Try that and let me know how it goes.

QUESTION: After reading many solution possibilities on internet, I unplugged my proscan tv for 5 minutes and plugged it back in.  Everything works fine now. I think computer gremlins live inside.  The TBS station (their sound worked well)kept repeating the message "You are listening to the secondary audio program for TBS. To return, please select English or normal audio . . etc."  Couldn't figure out how to do that with menu, but after plugging the tv back in, I was asked did I want English, which I clicked on.  All channels now work great.  Who knew?  Thanks for the quick response.  Greatly appreciated.

Answer
Yes, checking out the settings and features is always important.

And, if you read my columns I always recommend the hard reset and the whack test on every set because it costs nothing and solves about 30 - 50% of all problems right out of the can!

Thanks for the feedback!
