Audio Systems: 1995 Grand Am Cd player, external amplifier, speaker line

Question
I just recently got a newer pioneer deck for my car. My old deck would turn off when you try to put in a cd, when the car is parked and the volume would have to be on low with EQ FLAT on. IF the volume is turned up to much, the deck would turn off and try to restart itself. So, thinkin it was the deck, i put in a newer Kentwood deck, the deck did not get enough power to stay on. The cables are all hooked up right. So then again i change the deck to a newer pioneer, this deck turns on, but will not stay on if you try to play a CD. So i need help to figure out why my car is not giving the deck enough power.??

Answer
Can't help you much without knowing the model number of the deck and the system components of the car.  The 2 door and the 4 door have different system configurations, too.  So, please give me some more specific information on car and audio.

For example, if there is an external amplifier that could be part of the equation.

However, as a first guess, since the same problem has occurred with three different head units it must surely be a speaker line problem.  If there were a shorted speaker wire and/or a shorted speaker that would cause exactly what you are experiencing.

To find out you must find a way to disconnect the speakers at the output of the amplifier and connect them one at a timie until you locate the bad speaker line.  If you know how to use a vom/ohmmeter, that will make it easier, as well.

Hope this will help get you started.
