Audio Systems: DEH 1700, pioneer deh 1700, conventional cd

I am using a Pioneer DEH 1700 in my car,i see that there's a LED display written 'MP3' in the display panel,but whenever i insert an MP3 CD in it,it shows the message 'CD ROM'.I just want to know whether it plays MP3s or not,if yes,then how to make it play as it doesn't detect MP3 CDs.

No, I don't think this unit plays mp3 recordings due to its age.  Please check your owners manual, however, as it may be a late version that has an mp3 input from a portable player.  Some of them do, but the original deh1700 was a conventional cd player only.
