Audio Systems: Auto wiring for car stereo, auto wiring, electrical department

Question
I have a 1990 Honda Accord, bought a new stereo from Best Buy and have a wiring harness as well.  All color coated wires are hooked up correctly, color to color.  Does not work and the automatic seatbelts stop working also.  Clicking sound comes from under the seats.  When I put the red wire (power) with the yellow wire(memory) together, it works, but no AM station comes in.  When I turn the car off, it resets everythinng the next time I turn on (clock on dash as well as the presets)  It is grounded black to black as shown, and grounding to chassis does not change anything.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Dan

Answer
It is obviously not wired correctly.  Just because the colors match does not mean the are going to the right place.

You sound like you understand pretty much about wiring concept, so I suggest you get a vom (I like the little vom at walmart electrical department for $9.83) and trace the wires to make sure they are going to the right place.

The wiring harnass may not be the right one or you car may be wired differently than the next one of the same model and year, believe it or not.

The above may be of help in checking it over and rewiring as needed..........

Hope this helps.
