Audio Systems: amp wiring, rca cables, rca plug

Question
I have a 98 firebird and i am trying to install a new pioneer headunit, profile amp and two subs. I ran all the wires to the cd player and amp. They work just fine but when i plug the rca cables in the amp the amp protection light comes on and the amp just shuts off. Iv tried two different cd players, three different sets of rca cables and 3 different amps. Every time the amp shuts of and its only when i connect the rca cables to the amp. The car has the factory monsoon setup does that have anything to do with it or could it be something else. If you have any ideas i would greatly appreciate them. This system has been driving me nuts.

Answer
I am guessing it to be a grounding problem that, when the rcas are connected it throws the inputs to the sub amps off bias.

To test this theory, do not plug the rcas in, but touch the ground flange to the ground on the amp side.  See if you get the same result. If you have a vom, look for a dc voltage difference between the rca plug and the input plug.

You may need to bring the ground line of the sub amp to the same ground point as the head unit..... or maybe the current ground line is not screwed down tight  (electrically speaking).

Let me know if this does not solve the problem - we can try something else.
