Audio Systems: Speaker Hook-up on TV, internal amps, sterio speakers

Hi Mark,
I want to hook-up sterio speakers to my TV audio output.  Can the speakers be hooked directly to the TV audio output or must they be connected to the sterio input of the stero and have the speakers connected in the conventional to the apeakers?

If the speakers are standard speakers that need an amplifier/receiver to run them then usually you use a receiver.  most TVs don't have speaker connections or the amplifiers inside to run a decent set of speakers.
if the speakers are the kind that you plug in to the outlet to power internal amps inside the speakers then you may be able to just connect them to RCA outs on the TV.
