-----Question-----
I have a Sony mp3 car radio, the radio and every thing else seems to work fine, but when i put a cd in it, it will say the name of the song but the sound doesn't come out. The only wired not connected is the orange one which seems to have no place to hook to.

Hi Patrick,

If the radio works fine but trying to play a CD doesn't, then it's simply broken.  The output from any car radio/player is the same for radio vs. CD and if one works and the other doesn't, then there's something wrong with the unit so that it's not getting the output from the CD correct.  If you recently bought it, take it back for a replacement, and if you had it installed, then take it back for them to check the installation.  Otherwise, you're likely out of luck.  Sorry, Wink

Answer
Hi Patrick,

The TOC (Table of Contents) of the CD is stored separately from the audio on a Phillips/Sony Red Book standard CD.  Same with an MP3 CDR.  The laser might be able to read the TOC but then is out-of-alignment with the section of the CD where the music is.

The orange wire you mention could be anything - there are no standard color schemes - so perhaps it needs to be hooked up to something, but that's specific to the manufacture of the CD player so you would need to check the manual.  There is no way to answer this question for you, you'll need to find the manual for the specific make/model of the player to find out what all the wires are for and how they should be hooked up.
