Audio Systems: 2001 Jeep Wrangler Stereo, jeep wrangler, factory stereo

Question
i'm not having any luck finding anyone who can help me.  you may not be able to help either, but i thought i'd give it a shot.  i had a premier detachable face cd player installed several years ago by car toys (way out of warranty by now).  last summer, it mysteriously quit working.  when it died, it was making a loud static scratchy sounds then faded out.  every once in a while it would play at a faint volume, then make noise and go out.  i put the factory stereo back in.  however, the factory stereo will not maintain its max volume level.  it will for only 1 or 2 seconds when i start the jeep, or change stations.  the max volume i can get is only about three quarters (based on the turning of the knob).  i can turn it down or off, but not beyond 70% of max.  also, the front speakers do not work, but they did prior to reinstalling the factory unit.  any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks, Mark

Answer
You most likely have some wiring problems. When speaker wires short to ground, it will cause the symptoms you describe. You may need new front speakers also. The short may also be at the wiring of the front speakers. Jeeps are a pain to work on  I know...
