Audio Systems: skipping cds, weather and climate, jvc repair

Question
Hi..I have an aftermarket Jvc sysem in my 93 VW. it is less then a year old and I bought it from future shop, so it still has a couple months warranty on it. The problem I am having is when it is cold in the vehicle, first thing in
the morning, any cd I have in it skips horribly. and even when the car is warmed up and the cd player, it tends to skip  on all the songs in the middle of the cd like #5,6,7,8,9. Im just wondering if this is something i should send out because futur shop says they need to send it away if i have a problem with it but the want it for 6-8 weeks,, i cant go that long without a stereo. Or is this
just a problem with the inside tracks and lens being dirty, If so Is there cleaners for tis I can try? thanks for your time
Chris

Answer
Condensation on the surface of the cd is a common problem in cold weather and climate that has high humidity  -  where the dew point it reached in the early morning. You can tell if there is lot of dew on the grass in the neighborhoods in the morning.  BUT, this is only a short term problem.  As soon as the dew moisture on the surface of the disc dries out the player should play normally.

In your case, if the skipping and drop out continues throughout various locations on the disc it is a sign the tracking adjustments are not properly aligned inside the set.  And, Future Shop is correct in that they must send it out for the adjustments; they are not trivial to optimize.  AND, the laser diode may be weak in addition. IF so, replacement of the optical pickup may be required.

If you took it into a local shop that would honor the warranty they would be able to repair it quickly, I think. If it is still under the JVC factory warranty you can find an authorized jvc repair shop and take it directly to them.

is the search place for repair centers.

Check your manual for the warranty period. Probably one year.  If you don't have the manual you can download it from the jvc web sites.
