Audio Systems: 15V 4A AC Adaptor instead of 12V 4.2A, power pod, exact specs

Question
Dear Sir,

My previous power supply (12V 4.2A) that I used for creative 2.1 speakers has fried. Tried to find a compatible replacement for it in major stores including creative labs store. However couldn't find the exact specs and creative labs service recommended me a 15V 4A AC Adaptor and I ordered it. But I have not tried it yet and I'm kind of concerned about the difference. Do you think it is OK to use a 15V 4A AC Adaptor instead of a 12V 4.2A one.

Thanks very much,

Regards,

Murat

Answer
Yes, in this application.  Because the speaker amps are versatile and can handle a pretty wide range.

If you have doubts, when you first fire it up, watch carefully and be prepared to shut it off if you feel the power pod getting hot or making any noises, etc.

I don't think Creative would recommend it if they weren't comfortable with it as a replacement.

PS: Do make sure it has the correct/same polarity as the original one.  I think Creative are all the same, but just be sure as firing it up in reverse can do damage to the amp.
