Audio Systems: infinity amp - remove or not, infinity system, component sets

Question
Want to make sure I'm clear on the issue after I read my post.  The new head unit has 45 watts per channel and will go through the factory infinity amp.  I dont know how many watts the factory amp puts out.  My speakers are rated at about 90 watts.  Any idea how many watts the stock infinity amps will boost the head units 45 wattage?

99 Dodge Dakota - infinity system with amp located under passenger kick panel.  Replacing the head unit with aftermarket one that has 40 watts/channel.  Do I have to remove/bypass the stock infinity amp.  Heard the infinity head units put out very little wattage and worried about amplifying the output from this new unit and blowing my speakers.

You can certainly bypass it, but with only head unit power, you don't have to worry. If you were adding huge amps besides, then yes. It will work fine.

Answer
No matter what the after market deck's specs say, it does not put out 45w rms in real world performance. None of them do. Not one. Zero. The stock amp will only put out what it was designed for, and that will match just fine with your speakers. They were designed to work together. Your after market head unit will put out more power, but at about 80% volume setting, it should sound very well matched. If you are truly wanting more power than the factory amp/speakers, you should upgrade them all at once. A nice 150W X4channel, running into new component sets in each location, a 300W amp, driving 2 twelve inch sub woofers, yes, when money is no object, you can do amazing things....8-)
