Audio Systems: Replacing 6x9, dual voice coil, 4 ohms

Question

One more thing................I took an ohm reading at the speaker wire and got 4.8. Is this ok to run 4ohm speakers?
Thanks again,

-----Question-----
I have a 1980 Mercedes with an after-market Blaupunkt stereo with two 6x9" dual voice coil(4 connections/speaker)Craig speakers. Since I can't find new DVC's how can I use regular full range speakers without having to rewire the entire system? What would I do with the extra set of connectors for each speaker?
I look forward to your recommendation.
Thanks,
Larry

the purpose of dual coils is to be able to use different ohm configurations.  if both of the coils in that speaker are connected in such a way that they total 4 ohms, then replacing them with single coil 4 ohm speakers will work exactly the same as the dual coils. the 2nd set of wires can just hang and do nothing.  My recomendation is if the speakers dont say how many ohms the coils are, get a meter that can measure ohms and put it a cross the coils.  using a calculation wether the coils are in series or parallel will tell you what ohms your new speakers have to be to match.
If the ohms are printed on the speaker tell me exactly what it says.  if not, get a meter at walmart or homedepot, they're like $18
Good luck, hope to hear from you.

Answer
yes,  the meter will read DC ohms which is different than AC ohms, but close.  music (the music output'd from the cd player) is in the form of AC (alternating current) which the ohms varries from one freqency to another becuase of powerfactor/reluctance/reactance, etc) the DC ohms are a fixed reading, which is helpful in figureing what the AC "nominal" ohms "would be". so the fact that you got 4.8 means they are probably 6 ohm speakers. the DC resistance is usually a little lowwer than the actual AC passband resistance.
so anyway,  it doesnt matter since you already told me that you've replace the cd player to aftermarket blau.  ALL blau heads are capable of running 4 ohm loads.  so it'll be fine.
Good luck!
