Mitsubishi Repair: Timing Issue..VERY desperate., interference engine, coil pack

Question
Please help.. I have a 1996 2.0 non turbo eclipse. The timing belt broke and we have replaced, pulleys, tensioner and got a new belt,, we keep lining up the marks according to a book, and my car still sounds like it is only running on 2 cylinders. I then replaced a coil pack,, and still my car will not run smoothly....WHY, what could the problem be and what could cause timing to keep "jumping" ?? I have been without my car for over 2 months and I have no ideas on what to do, is this an easy fix or am I being screwed by a mechanic ??? Please any advise would be fabulous...

Answer
Pamela,
Because your engine is an interference engine, most times if the engine is running at an RPM higher than idle when the timing belt breaks, it can bend valves and can cause lose of compression.  This can prevent cylinders from firing properly. You will want to have a compression test performed to confirmed if you are having a lack of compression.  If this is the case, you'll want to have the head pulled and rebuilt.
Good luck!
