Audio Systems: Query re: 2000 Golf gttdi cd player, radio cassette player, golf gttdi

Thank you for your quick reply. There's a select button on the front as you'll see in the picture shown on e-bay. It's selected fro cdplayer not cdchanger so not sure if this is the problem.

Hello there. I just bought a 2000 golf gttdi here in Ireland(long way from you but worth asking anyway). There's a radio/cassette player with a seperate cd player in the dash above it. However when I put in a cd, hit the cd player button on radio it gives this error (CHK MAGAZINE) then 5 seconds later(CD ERROR) and throughs out cd. If it's a serious problem can you tell me whereI'd get the proper cd player to replace the one I have as I'm having bother on the net locating and I know that a VW garage will rip me off.

sounds like it's looking for a cd changer not just a single disk.  there was probably an option for either and it's set wrong (expecting the changer)?
Not sure, as I dont do factory systems.

hmm.. from what I can remember about the VW radios there are multiple inputs on the back of the unit, maybe it was installed into the wrong one,  I'd pull it out and try a different connection.  they are all keyed in such a way that they cant plug in in such a way that would damage the unit. so try that first.  the message of "check magazine" may also be a generic message for when there's a cd loading error. so it may have nothing to do with wrong wiring or selecting, there may just be a problem with the unit.
