Audio Systems: How do I set up my subwoofer ?, passive crossover, active crossover

Question
Hi! I've got a 2 ohm stable amplifier rated 160 watts with 2 channels. I've also got an 8 ohm subwoofer rated 1000 watts and a 200 w subwoofer passive crossover. Connected to the head unit i've got 2 105w rear and 2 8 inch door mounted 3 way 200 w each. Head unit is a guess at 25w x 4. How do i connect the sub to the amplifier? Help! Tried other sites but never found any help!

Answer
not sure what you mean by a 200 watt passive crossover.  Usually in the car audio world we dont use passive crossovers for subs.  your amp should have an active crossover built it. just a switch that says hp/full/lp or something like that and a knob with frequencies printed on it, usually from about 40hz-180hz or so.  I really would sugest not using a passive crossover with a sub.  there's just too much power loss.  I'm assuming you have an aftermarket cd player considering you are calling it a headunit and saying it's 25w x 4, if I'm wrong let me know cuz some of the following wont apply. if your amp has an active crossover all you need to do is:

1. run a power line to the amp from the battery

2. run a ground to the amp from the body of the car

3. run a thin wire for the remote trigger from the cd player's remote output to the amplifier's remote input.

4. run RCA cables from your headunit to the amplifier (assuming it's aftermarket)

5. connect the 2 wires from the 8 ohm sub to the bridged speaker outputs on the amp (should be clearly labeled on the amp)

that's basically it.  If you provide me model numbers of the equipment that would help but the hookup is esentially the same,  again, unless you have a factory cd player, then its a little different (just step 4 and maybe 3)

Good luck and let me know how it goes!
