Audio Systems: 98 mercury sable, sony xplod, mercury sable

i have a 98 mercury sable i installed a sony xplod cd black face cd player in it yesterday everything works until i turn it up above half way or so than the head unit cuts off does the problem lie in the head unit or the factory amp or else where any help would be greatly appreciated thanks garrett

If it indeed has a factory amp in it, the Sony is probably not directly compatible and could cause damage.

Rather than have me ask you questions about the specifics, I will send you to the horses mouth as to interfacing to a factory system:
I would suggest going to www.crutchfield.com and speaking with one of their online reps about properly interfacing to your specific vehicles' system.
You will need to give them specifics about the vehicle and its' factory system which they will outline for you in short order.
