Audio Systems: 92 Ford Taurus Speaker Replacement, size speakers, ford taurus

Question
Hi - What are the procedures for replacing the stock door and rear deck speakers on this car? Any special tools required and what are the replacement speaker sizes?
Thanks,
Rich K.

Answer
Sorry you didn't understand:

ONE:  You must have the right size speakers.  Depth and diameter is all important unless you are wanting to stray from the stock mounting parameters.  The Crutchfield site is the best for learning the correct size and models that will fit your car without making further modifications.

TWO:  The For car panels are clipped onto the doors. You don't need extra tools; but the engenuity to know how to pop off the panels and get to where the speakers are mounted.  Be sure to keep the plastic bag in place as this will keep moisture and water out of your new speakers. Water can be very damaging to them.

THREE: The rear deck speaker removal is visually intuitive; you should not have any problems getting them out once you have visually examined how they are installed.  Put the new ones back in revers of how you took the old ones out.

There are no special tools necessary for this job; ordinary tools will do.  If you are not sure, spend the $5 on a pictoral from one of the websites that sell the detailed instructions.  But, Fords are pretty easy and you should be okey.

Good Luck,

for the system wiring if you need it.

For the door and deck speakers you must remove them and replace with units that will fit properly (for size and depth).  Best way to find the compatible speakers is to go to www.crutchfield.com and put in your car details; their web page will list the speakers that will do the job.

If you purchase from Crutchfield they will send with the speakers a wiring diagram and installation details.

will sell you instruction details if you really need them.

But, if you are mechanically inclined you can visually observe what has to be done to remove the door panels so you can get into the speakers.  Replace the wiring exactly; plus to plus and minus to minus.  Rear deck speakers must be dismounted from inside the trunk, then you can tell if the come out from the top side or the bottom side - I don't remember exactly.

I think you are on the way.  Let me know if you need more guidance.
