-----Question-----
I have a 300 watt RCA cd player, It turns on plays sound through the headphones but will not play sound through the regular speakers. I know for a fact that the speakers are not blown and there is no break in the speaker wire, what could be the problem?
-----Answer-----
i need to ask you something first, when it worked fine, did plugging in your headphones turn off the speakers and unplugging headphones did speakers come back on, or did you have to turn off speakers manually when listening to headphones?

Plugging in the headphones turned the speakers off automatically.
I was just listening to it one time through the speakers and it just stopped, it showed it was still playing but there was no sound.

-----Answer-----
that's what i thought. you're actually having a problem with the headphone jack itself, or as i suspect, one or more 'legs' of the headphone jack have become loose due to poor soldering. if you're handy with a 40 or less watts soldering iron, it's an easy fix...good luck....

honestly i do not think thats the problem because I only used that jack to see if sound would come out when the speakers didnt work, my manual told me it switched on its own, i know what your saying but would that happen without use?

Answer
switching on it's own means that the audio is routed through the jack, when phones are plugged in contacts in the jack break the through position and rout it through the phones. when you unplug the phones, contacts route the audio to speaker jacks. if there was a problem with the amp circuits, you would not have audio at the phone jack. i've worked for authorized rca (and many other brands) service center for years, that's the way rca does it. the just about only other thing it could be is the jack's switching contacts have become a little oxidized, (normal with limited usage) and you could try the smallest spritz of contact cleaner into the jack and vigorously plugging and unplugging plug into jack and see if that helps, but rca's factory soldering has never been that good, so i still stick with the probability that the jack needs to be resoldered.
