Thanks for the reply.  I check the links you provided and in the "Peripheral VersaTimer 3 Signal Controller" manual it states that a Ford is a positive door trigger-positive trailing edge trigger.  You're stating that my Ford is negative trailing edge trigger.  What does all this mean? Also, it said that this device can be set-up to mirror the dome light in the truck.  Can this device be setup to the door trigger (as soon as I open the door the unit shuts off)?

Thanks

-----Question-----
Sorry it took me up till now to get it done.  I checked all the wires that is coming from the truck to the radio.  Besides the yellow wire, when I have ignition on one wire read 12.5 volts (red wire) and when I turn the ignition off the red wire voltage goes to zero.  However, when I turn the ignition to ACC (opposite way from turning the ignition on) and then turn the ignition off, the red wire voltage reads 12.5 until I open the door (My new radio will stay on even after I have taken the key out but will only shut off when I open the door).  However, it will not work when I have the ignition on and then off.  Maybe it is not a 10+ second delay but a door trigger delay?

Thanks for your answers.  In regards to Q#1, could you please provide me with detailed instructions on how to set it up and where to go to buy all the parts needed to set it up?

Thanks again,
Timothy

Question -
In my 2003 Ford F250 Super Duty it has an auto delay shutdown once the engine is turned off the radio and windows will work for 10+ or so or until the door is opened.  I just install a Kenwood KDC-X590 stereo but the stereo turns off as soon the engine is turned off.  My factory stereo (6 cd in-dash) would continue to play until I opened the door or for around 10+ seconds.  I would like for my Kenwood stereo to stay on until the door is opened or what ever the delay shutoff relay is set at.  Is there a way to set this Kenwood stereo on the auto delay shutdown system?

#2
As long as the truck was on the factory stereo  always displayed the time even when the stereo was not in use.  Is there a way to have the Kenwood stereo display the time even when it is not in use?

Thanks

for #1 there's probably an alternative power wire that provides this.  using a meter on any unused wires behind the stereo should show you this.  I can help if you need specific instructions on how to do this.

For #2 most after market stereos dont show the clock as soon as the radio turns off.  in fact I dont think I've seen any that do this.

sure, go to walmart or homedepot or any auto parts shop and get a meter, you shouldn't need to spend more than 20-25 bucks or so.  digital's better than the cheesy kind that just has the needle on it but if that's all you can find, that's ok.

the meter should have various settings on it for what you're going to measure, you want the setting that measures DC volts.
The meter should have 2 leads on it, a black one and a red one.  remove your stereo and have a friend firmly hold the black lead against any unpainted piece of solid metal in the car for the ground.  you can test that it's working by touching the red end of the meter against the wire that provides constant power to the stereo when the key is off (usually yellow wire on the stereo) and the meter should show about 12.5 volts.  if not, you are on the wrong wire, the meter is set wrong or your friend isnt on a good piece of metal.  so when you get this working what you are going to do is unhook the cd player completely, turn the key to the on potition and test all the wires in the bundle there that is part of the car going to the cd player harness. Make sure that if there are wires that go into the harness but dont continue on that you cut them and check them as well, they may be what we're looking for.  what you should find is a wire that gives you 12-13 volts and if you hold the meter there and turn the key off should stay on for the 10 sec time out thing and then automatically drop to 0 on the meter by itself.
If you get that far let me know, we'll proceed.
good luck!

hey!  glad you wrote back, since our conversation i found a unit that does exactly what youre looking for.  its a little box that you wire up and you can set the delay time from 1-60 seconds:

http://www.cardomain.com/item/PERVT3

so basically it can be wired so that it will leave your stereo on for 1-60 seconds after you shut the car off.  simple, done.  you'll need a relay too since it's output is negative not posative, standard automotive relay will do fine like this one:

and the socket helps:

I can help you hook it up and make it work if/when you get it.

well, a  leading edge input means that the timmer starts timing when the signal starts.  a falling edge or trailing edge input starts timing when the signal stops.  so in your case you want to start timing on a trailing edge, when the signal from the ignition key stops.
the device's output is negative only which you need to use a relay to switch it to a posative output.  your cd player is triggered by posative voltage so that's why we need the relay.
Dont worry we'll make it work.

Answer
uh oh.... I was afraid of that, now its up to me to make it work huh?   (just joking!)
ok, well you need a meter.  I dont remember if you had one or not but you'll never get this thing to work without a meter.  how about you send me a private message if/when you have a meter and give me your personal email address there since I may need to send you some scetches or somthing ok?
