Audio Systems: auto stereo wiring, rca cables, chevy tracker

Question
Real easy question here. How would I wire in a woofer in the delco am/fm cd stereo of a 2003 Chevy Tracker?

Answer
Not easy!

If the factory head unit has an rca audio out you are home fee; just take a cable from that output to the input of the amp/sub. Run the 12v power line to the amp direclty to the battery.  Wire the start/ON wire to the ignition or the power ON 12v from the head unit if it has one.

HOWEVER: I don't think the factory head unit has an audio out.  So, you will either have to buy a new head unit to mount in the dash OR wire the output from the speaker to the input of the amp/sub.  (Note, you did not tell me the make/model of the woofer package, but there are two things that you must have: Amplifier to drive the sub and a box to put the sub in; both are critical if you want to get your moneys worth).

To interface with the speaker level outputs you must build your own pad box or buy one such as the one here:

There are many others that you can find by googling.

So, in summary, you must do the following:

ONE:  Have an amplifier if the sub you bot is not self-powered.

TWO:  Have the sub in an appropriate box for its bass performance to meet your expectations.

THREE:  Have the proper interface with the head unit (either rca cables or an interface box to connect to the speaker outputs.

Any questions?  Let me know.
