Audio Systems: 1996 stock stereo, gm truck, chevy silverado

Question
i have a 1996 chevy silverado. the stock cd player is not "advanced" enough to play burned cd's. my friend has a '98 gmc that does play burned cd's. is there any way i can pull just the cd player(not the entire radio), and will it have the same wiring as my '96?

Answer
GM truck stereos from 1995 to 1998 are the same, some had an auxillary connection on the back for a CD player. If yours has  a black unused plug on the back you lucked out. Probably it won't. You are FAR better off to have a new aftermarket deck installed and not be fiddling around with cd players that are 10+ years old.
