Audio Systems: popping speakers, rca plugs, rcas

Question
thanks, it was the head unit.  I swapped the RCAs at the HU and the popping switched speakers.  So I moved the RCA wires to the front output instead of the rear output and the front RCAs still work (no popping).  Only thing is I can't fade out the rear/sub speakers.  I have several speakers up front running off the front outputs on the HU (non-RCA).  I guess if it really bothers me I could switch that wiring.  Thanks again.

Question -
I am running a 12 powered by a 150W amp, and 2 6x9s powered by a 100W amp.  The input for the amps goes to the 150W sub amp and then to the 100w 6x9 amp.  Recently I removed the amps and speakers and left the wiring inplace.  I reinstalled everything the way it was before and now my right speaker pops and the sub.  I traced it to the right input RCA.  When I remove this the sub doesn't pop and the left 6x9 doesn't pop.  I will be pulling the head unit today to ensure it is not a loose connection there.  If the head unit connection is secure, could it be anything besides the wire?  Could it be the RCA plugs themself and not the wire?  I don't want to take the car apart again to run another wire, unless I have to.

Hi Andrew,

First double check you haven't gotten crossed up in the swap over.

We need to check to see where the problem lies, in the lead, the amp or the head unit.

We have the head unit, RCA leads from that to the amps and speaker leads from amps to speakers’ right?

Swap RCA leads from L to R and see if the popping swaps sides.

If it's still the same side the problem lies FROM the amp to speakers.

If it changed sides then its from the head unit TO the amp.

Swap RCAs at the rear of the radio, same? It is the amp end, swaps sides it's the head unit.
Process of elimination.
Good luck, Peter
p.s don't forget the feed back, most appreciated.

Answer
You can fit a fader from one pair of RCA to two pairs out, I have done it on my car with the rear RCAs into an Alpine fader and feeds two pairs out to the rear and a sub amps so I can give more or less THUMP.
I have 2 x 200w 8" three way rears, 1 x 300w 10" sub, 2 x 6 1/4" three way fronts and 2 x 2" tweeters 8-).
