Audio Systems: 1997 DODGE VAN CD PLAYER INSTALL, metal braid, noise rejection

Question
I am trying to install a VR3 cd player into my 1997 Dodge 1500 cargo van.  I removed the old unit properly and then hooked up the wire harness but it wouldn't turn on. Then i pushed the cd player into the slot which bent the wires and such and it turned on momentarily. This happened several times but i cannot see what wires are doing what for this to happen. The ignition 12V and constant 12V wires weren't touching anything but eachother I noticed one of the times it was on so it can't be anything to do with those I don't think.  Then I also plugged the stock radio back in and it doesn't work now.  What should I check?

Answer
How about hook up the ground wire. It's grounding the case when you push it into the dash. Don't feel bad, lots of people miss that step. If you did hook up to the black wire in the harness, remember that Dodge did not always supply a ground wire in the OEM harness, and the large metal braid was mandatory not only for power (-) but also for noise rejection.
