Audio Systems: Subwoofer Goes Out!, watt amp, power amp

Question
I have a system in my car with a 760 watt amp two 10' subwoofers, on some songs when the bass hits real hard or loud the subs just die and I just get the bass from the other speakers in the car, is this a power amp issue? or a car battery issue?

Answer
The amp should have some lights on it.  many amps have a green power light and a red "trouble" type light.  Look at the lights when the system is running fine and you will probably just see the green one lit. If you crank your system to where it shuts off, take a look at these lights again and the red one may be on. Also see how hot the amp is.  most amplifiers will get just over the point where you cant keep your hand on it without being burnt before they shut off so if it feels this hot it's probably overheating.  if you turn the system on after it's been off all night and crank it, can you get it to shut off right away or will it crank for 10 minutes and then shut off? if so it's almost definatly overheating. you also may have the ohms too low and its circuit thinks theres a short and shutting itself off.  either way the lights should tell you that it's the amp that's doing it.
Take a look there and let me know.  if you want to tell me the exact model of the amp and subs and the way you have it wired (series, parallel) that would help in determining if they are a good match and if they're wired correctly.
If it's a power problem the signs would be that the bass would be horribly distorted, the power light on the amp would be dimming to the beat, and maybe even your lights inside the car would dim to the beat, also haveing the car running would make it better, having it off would make it worse, and having your highbeams on would make it even worse so check those things as well.

Good luck and let me know.
