Audio Systems: back ground lighting, blaupunkt ontario, ground lighting

Question
Mark,I own a Blaupunkt Ontario CD85 car stereo that came with my 95 Jeep.I noticed after transferring the stereo into my Dodge Caravan that the back ground lighting for the display window is very dim during the day and no light at night but the control lighting works so I was wondering if I have to replaced the face plate, repair it or is there a dim control for the radio that I don't know about?
I don't have a owners manual for it so is there one available on line for the unit.
Thanks,Craig.

Answer
well, there is a wire that controlls how dim the display is to attempt to match it to the display in your car dimming up and down.  Although the way it works when not connected is to have the lights on full blast. in other words if you choose to not use the wire the lights will be as bright as possible.  That being said, I guess it's possible that the dimmer wire is accidentally or improperly connected.  Technically there only needs to be 3 wires connected for the unit to turn on and then 8 speaker wires in addition to that.  I believe blaupunkt separates their speaker wires into a separate plug on most of their cd player models.
Basically what I would do is remove everything but the 3 power wires which should be black, red, and yellow (typically)  if the speaker wires (pairs of white, purple, green, and grey) are on a separate plug just pull that for the test.
If you only have the 3 power wires hooked up properly and nothing else, then the display should be nice and bright,  if not it's probaly burning out.
Try that out and let me know.
